The Torah speaks of the merciful nature of God. He gives mercy when we humble ourselves, when we do not regard confessing our sins to be too high minded for us.
Mercy is given to one who confesses sins and then his sins shall Ben remembered no more.
Psalms 25:7 Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. Remember me according to your lovingkindness, For your goodness’ sake, Yahweh.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins.
Guilt is our cue to make confessions.
Leviticus 5:5 It shall be, when he is guilty of one of these, he shall confess that in which he has sinned:
Leviticus 26:40 They shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary to me,
Before Joshua exterminated all of Achan ‘s family for hiding a teraphim, he got one chance to fess up.
Joshua 7:19 Joshua said to Achan, My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him; and tell me now what you have done; don’t hide it from me.
Ezra understood that unless all the community confess, there be no blessing coming to them.
Ezra 10:1 Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very sore.
Today the water baptism takes the easy option. You see originally sins must be mentioned in public.
Matthew 3:6 They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
In the Acts those that had practiced magic also made known their secrets voluntarily and be authentic to the community.
Acts 19:18 Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.
Confess before trusted parties. It is part of the New Covenant.
James 5:16 Confess your offenses one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effective, earnest prayer of a righteous man is powerfully effective.
The promise for one who will make confession is forgiveness.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
People who hide their unconfessed sins while cruising will only cause their sins to be fused with their hearts
Ezekiel 21:24 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because you have come to memory, you shall be taken with the hand.
As far as God is concerned his sins are remembered.
Ezekiel 24:12 She has wearied [herself] with toil; yet her great rust doesn’t go forth out of her; her rust doesn’t [go forth] by fire.
- Unconfessed sins will not automatically “go away” when the testing fire comes to the believer.
